TEACH YOUR CHILDREN THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FEAR OF GOD – LESSONS FROM THE BOOK OF JOB
Much as Nigeria is estimated to be a leading nation in implementing the Great Commission, one of the leading lights of the gospel, Revd (Dr) Mike Oye states that: I love Job for one thing; he speaks the truth from his heart, no matter what anybody may think or do. He would not allow his friends to intimidate him with their so-called wisdom or knowledge. Thus, in these early verses, he retorts that his deep knowledge and walk with God make him superior in true wisdom than his friends, whose wisdom is based on changeable human theories and speculations. He calls them forgers of lies and worthless physicians.
And there are many of such, today?. Brethren, the more we fear and abide in God, the wiser and more triumphant we become over the most intricate challenges of this life. Our love grows, and perfect love casts out ALL FEAR. 1 John 4:18. Job, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Paul, and John the beloved, all experienced the supernatural protection and deliverance of our sovereign God, each leaving this world, only when it was God’s time! These men feared and obeyed God, so premature death had no power over them. Of course, they were ever ready to die, because of their hope for a superior life in heaven.
Teaching from the Book of Job JOB 13:1-4, Mike Oye asks: “ARE WE READY TO DIE? HAVE WE PUT OUR HEARTS AND HOMES IN ORDER?” Or, are we in morbid fear of death, as the multitudes on earth today are in panic, because of the spread of CORONAVIRUS? Both great and small, rich and poor, big scientists and stack illiterates, male and female, young and old, are trembling under the thumb of this microscopic virus! They have no hope of eternity with God. But the children of Light, Love, and Life have a heavenly-bestowed confidence in their REDEEMER, and are able to say, “THOUGH HE SLAY ME, YET WILL I TRUST IN HIM.”
These are the days for decisive purification by the word, the blood, and the Spirit. Let’s sanctify ourselves unto the Lord, eager to do His bidding, always rejoicing in His presence. We shall see wonders, before He comes to take us home. All who die in Him will be raised first, before we who are still alive shall be changed into our glorious bodies. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Corinthians 15:50-57.MARANATHA!! He, who passionately wants to impress others that he knows all, but actually knows within himself that he does not know, is not only misleading others, but also deceiving himself as a fake person and a blind guide before God; he is a HYPOCRITE. It is almost impossible to correct such a person, neither is it easy for him to learn anything new. He is proud and conceited, and it takes humility to learn for progress. This is why Job tells his talkative friends to learn to be quiet in areas of knowledge where they are ignorant. Verse 5. James 1:19 teaches us to be quick to listen to others, slow to speak to (teach) others, and slow to be angry with others; that is wisdom.
RENDERING ACCOUNTS Every word we utter creates either positively or negatively. That is why Jesus says we will give an account of every careless statement we make. What we say shows who we are. Just consider the volumes of harm and disasters that have happened to mankind over the ages, mainly because of careless words spoken out of envy, hatred, malice, jealousy, anger, wrath, pride, lust, and selfishness! They have been the cause of family, societal, social, religious, civil, national, and global conflicts, with the concomitant sufferings upon the innocent. On the other hand, positive communication emanating from love and genuine desire for human progress, is what has made life on earth relatively pleasant and peaceful.
This calls for a return to the best source of true knowledge, understanding, and wisdom: THE BIBLE. It leads us to encounter God, our Wisdom, and grow in Him. The fear of God is, in deed, the beginning of wisdom. The world has rejected her Maker and is suffering. A return to Him ensures lasting peace, that surpasses human understanding. I invite you to make the Bible the compass of your life. I have encountered God, peace, and the assurance of a blissful eternity through meditating in it. Come, taste and see that the LORD is good.
